Happy December! I was joking with someone today that the excitement for the holiday season is the only way that we (those of us north of Florida) make it through the early winter months. The pretty lights and decorations are a nice consolation prize for the bitter cold days ahead. Not only is it the holiday season, but December marks the end of another year! Even though there were definitely some moments that were not so great this year, I am soo proud of all of the things I accomplished this year (but more on that later 😛 )
Here is what is on my bucket list for the month of December:
My First Christmas Tree
My family had Christmas trees while growing up, but after a certain age we stuck with artificial trees. Now that I am technically considered an adult and now that I am out in the real world, I decided that this year I would get my first live Christmas tree for my home.
Zoo Lights
Going to Zoo Lights at the National Zoo has become somewhat of an accidental tradition. My brother has been asking to go and it is nice to see the zoo decked out with various light displays. What’s not so nice? The cold and all of the walking…but ‘tis the season!
Make a Christmas Ornament
I have been in a very crafty mood this month. To commemorate the season, I thought I would try to make a Christmas tree ornament. Since this year is my first with a live Christmas tree, I haven’t really started a collection of memorable ornaments (with the exception of a special pineapple that I received from a bestie’s wedding last year). This will be a fun craft to get my siblings involved with as well.
DIY Crafts
I saw this super cute (but expensive) sweater the other day and for once I thought “I can make that!” It is very similar to my J. Crew Factory sweater shown here. There are a few other DIY crafts that I would like to tackle this month as well.
Reflection Letter
For a couple months, I have been thinking about the best way that I could reflect on my year. While this year definitely had some downs, there were a lot of triumphant moments that I wanted to reflect on and celebrate. I was reading a guest post by Maxie McCoy on Carly’s blog and one suggestion really resonated with me: Write a Letter to Your Year-Ago Self. While the letter might get a little personal, I would want to share a bit of it with you all as well. I think this reflection will be a great way to remind myself of how far I’ve come and get me thinking about my goals for next year. If all goes well, it might be something that I want to incorporate in my life for years to come.
Read One Book
I love to add this item on my list between semesters. During the semester, I feel as though I have way too much going on to read for pleasure. Now that I have a little time to breathe, I would love to squeeze a book in. If you have any book recommendations, please let me know in the comments!
More Keurig, Less Trips to Starbucks
I’m not exactly sure when or how, but I developed quite a Starbucks habit that was draining my budget ($5 a cup adds up!). I also have a Keurig that remains relatively untouched throughout the year. This month I want to utilize my Keurig more and go to Starbucks less.
Holiday Inspired Recipe
Sticking with the holiday theme this December, I also want to make a holiday inspired recipe. I’m still working on narrowing down some options, but I’m sure that my office wouldn’t mind a treat! I am also attending a holiday party at the end of the month that might necessitate a holiday wish as well. Check in to my instastories (@ambitiouslycierra) to see what I decide to make!
How will you find your balance this December? Join me in one of these challenges or tell me about your own challenge!
