I’ve never been one to be bitter around Valentine’s Day. I adore seeing the expressions of love everywhere. Plus, it’s a holiday centered around pink, candy, flowers, and hearts (it’s also the day before my birthday, which doesn’t hurt ?).
As someone who has been single for the last few Valentine’s Days, I thought I would give you my Single Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s!
Here are a few ways that all my single ladies (and gents) can celebrate Valentine’s Day ♥
Send your besties a love note
This year I wanted to do something a little special for my besties to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I was inspired by these (here) cards by Evelyn Henson. When I saw them, I quickly snatched them up! I wrote each friend a personalized note and added a giftcard so that they could grab a cup of coffee. Small gestures go a long way in long distance friendships ❤️ (look out for a future post on long distance friendships!)
Galentine’s Day
Throughout college, my gal pals and I would find a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Though many of them were in relationships, more often than not they could not spend the day with their significant other. Also, it’s just a fun excuse to do something with your girls! The last couple of years my bestie and I would go to the movies to see the Fifty Shades series (not the slightest bit ashamed. Can’t wait to see the next installment!!). I have a date to see the last movie when I return from my trip!
Your Galentine’s Day celebration can be as simple or elaborate as you choose! You can catch dinner and a movie like I do with my friends or plan a cute brunch. If you have a larger group, play Secret Cupid (i.e. Secret Santa Valentine’s Day edition) and exchange small gifts of gratitude or candy. As long as you get together with some of your favorite people, you’re doing it right.
Treat yo self
Treat yo self 2017 may be over, but that doesn’t mean that you should stop spoiling yourself with treats!! I’m a big proponent of splurging on yourself every once in a while. You work hard in life and life is short. Buy some new make-up or a new outfit if that’s going to make you happy.
Spa Day (or any other self-love activities)
Practicing a little self-love should almost always be on the agenda, no matter what is going on during the month. This could range anything from giving yourself a spa day with some new face masks, relaxing in a bubble bath with a glass of wine, giving yourself a manicure, or all of the above!
Date yourself
Similar to the two suggestions above, this option focuses on the idea that it is ok to spoil yourself. Get your favorite food delivered (dessert included!), light a candle, and watch some Netflix (ok so this may be how I spend some of my Friday nights anyway ?). You can also incorporate some of the aspects I’ve mentioned by buying yourself a gift or adding some self-love activities.
Valentine’s day treats for your siblings
Growing up, my grandma would always get us random treats for the holidays, Valentine’s Day included. As I got older, I began to enjoy doing the same thing for my siblings as well! I won’t get into too much detail about the treats that I got for my siblings this year (because my sister reads the blog haha) but in the past, there was definitely some candy involved.
You don’t have to be in a serious relationship to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I hope that you take some time throughout the month to express your love to yourself and others ♥♥.
