“Summertime is always the best of what might be.” Charles Bowden
This quote totally captures my excitement for the months to come. Though summertime doesn’t have the air of freedom that it once did in youth, (ya mean I still have to go to work? But it’s so nice out!) it still screams endless possibilities. The sun takes its time setting so that you can squeeze in a little more fun. Everyone is out and about and there is never a shortage of things to do. I’m looking forward to all of the outdoor events of summer and of course, the summer nights. To kick off the summer, my June Bucket List mirrors my eagerness to be social in the great outdoors.
Here is how I am finding balance in June:
Boys’ Promotion Ceremonies
My baby boys just won’t stop growing! My little brothers are being promoted to middle school this month and I can’t wait to beam with pride at their “graduations.”
Incredibles 2 Sibling Date
“Honeyy? WHERE’S MY SUPER SUIT!?!” Finally getting a sequel to one of my favorite movies! Though I totally agree with the sentiment that the kids who loved the movie when it came out in 2004 should get first dibs, I have arranged to bring my siblings to see the movie as well. I’ll even get another use out of my Elastigirl costume.
Hang out with a New Friend
This is one of the social steps that I want to take this summer. All of my really good friendships are long distance. Making friends as an adult can be tough, but the promise of summer is helping me stay optimistic!
Lately, multiple occasions have arisen where it would have been beneficial to have business cards on hand. Now that I am networking more and my blog is growing, it is finally time to pull the trigger. Part of my initial hesitation was that I didn’t want to get stuck with a bunch of business cards if blogging was something that I decided that I no longer wanted to pursue. However, 9 months in, I truly enjoy blogging and I want to see where it can lead me.
Try a Shave Club
Maybe the Dollar Shave Club ads were finally starting to get to me. Or maybe I’m fed up with the pink tax and the price of replacement cartages. Whatever the reason, (a combination of both most likely) I have decided to try a shave club. I actually posted a question in the Carly the Prepster Facebook group about whether anyone has used Dollar Shave Club and their thoughts. There were so many positive reviews. Some even mentioned another shave box called Billie which is more catered to women. The idea is, you subscribe to the service and you get a starter kit with a razor and other items. After that, you pay to get replacement cartages sent to you every month or every so often. I want to try them both and do a comparison to see which one I would recommend. Stay tuned!
Spend Time in the City
There are soooo many interesting events going on in DC this month that I could not narrow it down to just one bucket list item! Most of my inspiration has come from Washington.org’s list of 50+ things to do this June in Washington, D.C. If you live in the area, let me know if you are planning on attending any events!
Try a New Yoga Class
I took an admittedly long break from yoga. When I was in South Block the other week (trying my first acai bowl!), I noticed that there was a yoga studio sharing the space. They even offer a free yoga class every second Saturday! Yoga has always been really challenging for me, yet it feels so rewarding when I finally nail a pose or I can go deeper in a stretch. I’m looking forward to giving it another shot.
One Vegan Meal a Week
Before anyone gets too excited, I do not plan on becoming a vegan anytime soon. However, I recognize that there are many benefits to eating plant-based meals often and scaling back on meat. I want to test out the idea of cutting back on animal products and see if I can get any fun recipes out of it!
June is already shaping up to be a fun month and I am super excited. This month, I am hoping to incorporate balance into my life by utilizing the energy of summer to have fun, yet keep up with my other responsibilities. Luckily, I have a break from school at the end of the month that I plan on fully taking advantage of. How are you finding balance in June?
