This month was exactly how I wanted to start my summer! Some of the highlights include a new-found obsession with pitaya (aka dragonfruit) flavored things (thanks South Block and Starbucks) as well as getting able to meet so many wonderful people! I started my month at the Positivity Charge Retreat (more on that in a post soon!) and I also attended several meet-ups and blogger events. My spring semester ended at the halfway point of this month, which freed up some time to be social and I completely took advantage of it.
Here are my other reflections for the month of June:
One
Can we talk about Incredibles 2? In true Cierra fashion, I arrived at the movies in a mask and Incredibles t-shirt (I would have shown up in full costume but it was over 90 degrees here!!). Back to the movie: I thought that it was super cute! You never know how sequels are going to go when the original movie is so epic. Jack-Jack and Dash were def my favorite characters (there’s a scene with a raccoon…cuteness overload). I’m trying really hard not to spoil the movie, but it is definitely worth seeing if you saw the first one (and if you haven’t seen the first one…what is you doing!?).
Two
As I mentioned above, this month was full of social activity. I got to meet so many new people and hang out with them in different capacities. For example, we had our first book club meet up this month to discuss the Alice Network (highly recommend btw). It was exhilarating to make connections with such amazing people in this community. I look forward to watching relationships grow!
Three
I was so excited when my shave club kits finally arrived! I decided to test out both Billie and the Dollar Shave Club so that I can provide a review of which subscription I prefer. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have caught my story where I gave my initial impressions (you can still view them on my highlights!). I want to make sure that each razor gets a fair chance, so I won’t be posting a review until later this month.
Four
With most of my social engagements in DC, I spent ample time in the city this month. I visited some new places (like the Hawthorne rooftop!) and some of my tried and true hangouts (like Georgetown…on multiple occasions). I actually got to share some of the city with my bestie when she came up for a visit. We took a monuments boat tour to Georgetown and spent a little time there before returning to Alexandria. I took her to taste her first macaron at Olivia’s and now she’s obsessed! A perfect, memorable day with her and her boys ♥.
I also attended the Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle with my sister! It was our first time attending and I have to say that it was kind of overwhelming. SO many free samples and things to do. We attended the second day for a few hours and some people were telling me how they had been there the entire day (I could not even imagine!). You really get your money’s worth especially if you get the tickets on Groupon like we did (a steal at $12). One take away: bring a backpack or rolling device so that you aren’t lugging heavy bags of stuff around (wow did that sound like a first world problem).
Five
This month I challenged myself to have at least one vegan meal a week and I did it! I was surprised to learn that eating vegan isn’t as hard as it seems and that I do it more than I was aware of. I will be sharing my favorite vegan meals from June in another installment of “Tried it, Loved it” in the upcoming weeks.
Woah! In the excitement of my reflection, I forgot to mention that I totally crushed this month’s bucket list (find it here)!!!! I completed all 8 items and added in some extra fun. It may have been ridiculously hot this month (so many humid above 90 degree days) but the spirit of summer persisted. I wonder what else this summer holds…
Stay tuned for my July Bucket List!
♥ Cierra
