Fall officially begins this month and I could not be more excited!! Sure, the autumn equinox is not until the end of the month, and yes, the weather is def still screaming summer, but BRING ON THE PUMPKIN SPICE AND SWEATER WEATHER.
In other news, this month I will also be ending my last academic semester of my Master’s program! All that stands between me and my degree is my Capstone project/paper! That being said, I am also anticipating a lot of hard work in the next few weeks (well months actually) that will make my need for balance even more salient.
Here is how I am finding balance in September:
Pumpkin Spice Latte
Though I am more of a pumpkin spice dirty chai girl, it wouldn’t feel like Fall if I didn’t inaugurate the season with a PSL from Starbucks. In addition to kicking off the season, the pumpkin flavored drink also starts my obsession with incorporating pumpkin into my recipes. Last year, I wrote a post featuring some of my favorite fall foods (here) that I can’t wait to put back into the rotation this year.
Jogger of 4 Challenge
This month, I am teaming up with Meaghan, the veggie enthusiast behind the gorgeous food inspo pics on Instagram as @joggerof4, for a fun challenge. Seriously, check out her page if you haven’t already. She makes healthy eating look so colorfully fun! I will be announcing more information about the challenge soon on Instagram!
Visit a Vineyard
Ya’ll. In my 25 years of life, I have never been to a vineyard. Though I have always wanted to go, the timing and arrangements with people just never worked out. If I have learned anything in the past two years, it’s that I shouldn’t hold back on having the experiences that I want because of others. It seems a little silly to use visiting a vineyard as a metaphor for following my bliss, but it’s just one of the ways that I have been working on being comfortable with my own growth.
Create a New Piece of Art
I recently got some new art supplies and I am so excited to use them! I am also several weeks behind on the Simply Jessica Marie color cocktail videos that I have been using to learn more about watercolor. Hopefully, I will have time at the end of the month to work on a few pieces that I have been wanting to create.
A change in season always puts me in the cleaning mood. However, this month I really want to tackle the projects that I have been putting off for so long to get my apartment back in shape. As always, declutter extends beyond decluttering my stuff, but I want to work on decluttering my life and spirit as well.
Donate Old Clothes
In line with the decluttering theme, I also want to tackle extensively going through my clothes and donating as much as I can. It’s embarrassing how many articles of clothing I have been holding on to that I haven’t worn over the years. Generally, the rule is if you have gone more than a season without wearing it, you should consider purging it. I plan to apply this rule to my wardrobe to get ready for the inevitable fall and winter clothing refresh.
Add to Home Décor
This item may seem a little counterintuitive to the last two items on the list, but I want to use the cleaner space as a blank canvas to get my apartment closer to my dream living area. On a previous bucket list, I tackled redoing my bathroom and I love the way it turned out. This month, I’m going to focus more on my sleeping and desk area.
Perfect Matcha Banana Muffins
Last month, in my attempt to incorporate more superfoods into my diet, I absolutely failed in my attempt to make matcha banana muffins. I was def winging it with coconut flour (combined with the fact that I’ve just never been much of a baker) and it was just not a pretty sight. However, the delicious smell that filled my apartment warrants another try! Maybe they’ll even be insta worthy!
This month, I am hoping to incorporate balance into my life by decluttering. With the change of season and end of a semester, it’s the perfect time to have a fresh, clean start to the last quarter of the year. There are only a few months left in 2018 to reach your goals!
