Go home D.C. weather, you’re drunk.
Though it’s officially fall, we’re still at record high temps (tomorrow is supposed to be 95°!!). If you thought a little heat would stop this basic fall queen from enjoying the season, ya thought wrong. So how exactly does one transition into fall fashion without completely melting into the leaf scattered sidewalks?
Here are my 3 summer-to-fall fashion transition tips:
Dress like a leaf
There are so many things to love about fall, but one of my favorite characteristics is the way that the leaves paint the landscape in vibrant color. Use fall leaves as color inspiration for your wardrobe! Break out the saffrons, moss greens, russets, and flaming oranges. Even if the leaves haven’t started changing on the trees yet, your look will be a reminder of what there is to look forward to in the weeks ahead.
Play with textures
My go-to fall textures are definitely faux leather and suede. I love the way that adding a bold texture to an outfit can elevate the whole look! The leafy color paired with the suede texture of this LOFT skirt (similar version here) made it the perfect transition piece.
Keep it short
Opt for a mock neck over a turtleneck, mini over a maxi (bonus points for texture!), and booties over riding boots. Sounds pretty self-explanatory, but give you skin some air to breathe. You can still pull off a cute fall look without risking a heat stroke.
I adored the color (and ruffle detail of course!) of this mock neck shirt from Target as soon as I saw it. It combines the principles of all of the above tips, which is why I will be reaching for it often throughout the season. I also love the way it looks layered over a dress (which will be necessary when the temperatures start to drop).

I’m hoping that if we continue to dress in the colors of fall, then the weather will take the hint! Today was unbelievably hot but I hear this weekend we’ll get a cool 65! Thanks for sharing, Cierra <3
Yesss! So excited for the cooler weather this weekend 🙂
