I know that I said goodbye to summer in last month’s wrap up post, but it seems like it wants to stick around. At least, that’s what I gather from the 93° weather that we are experiencing as I type. Don’t worry, I am still wearing one of my favorite fall outfits (check out my tips for fall fashion in the summer heat here!).
Fall is a great catalyst for change, and September definitely brought about a few changes in my life. I committed to my natural hair decision and even switched things up with a new protective style. In addition, I decided to introduce a new mantra that would make my life feel more manageable in the long run. Lastly, I worked to change my environment by decluttering some of the elements that were creating a chaotic mood in my home.
Here are my other reflections for the month of September:
One
Have you ever been on the Capital Wheel at the National Harbor? I can officially say I have! Earlier in the month, the DC Bloggers had an event at the Flight Deck at the Capitol Wheel. I had no idea that such a cute space was nestled right underneath the Wheel! The Flight Deck featured a bar, plenty of seating, fire pits, and fantastic views. At the event, we were all given a free ticket to ride the Capital Wheel. I saved my ticket to ride with my family who had also never been on the Wheel.
My family and I boarded and were surprised to note that the pod was air-conditioned (which was very necessary). We enjoyed music as we looked over the Potomac River and the National Harbor. The views were amazing! It would definitely be a fun activity with friends or a date. Thank you, Capital Wheel and the Flight Deck, for such a great experience!
Two
The first day of fall was last week and I celebrated by co-hosting a Fall Festival at my office. I went a little overboard with all of the fall-themed treats, games, and even smells (the cinnamon-pumpkin brooms at Trader Joe’s are LEGIT). I thoroughly enjoyed forcing (I mean celebrating) my favorite season on/with my coworkers. I also started my deep dive into all things pumpkin spice so I will have some very great reviews for you all soon!
Three
I only got to have one firepit session this month, but it was still everything that I wanted. Marshmallows, giggles, and good vibes with my besties. Hoping to squeeze some more in during the upcoming months!
Four
Remember that large pile of clothes that I needed to get rid of? Well, I finally made some real progress! At 6 am on a Saturday, I set up shop at a flea market to sell some pieces. I also listed a ton of items on Poshmark where they are steadily selling. I have one more giant yard sale to attend this weekend before I donate the remaining items. So happy to see the pile go down, but even happier to know that some of my cherished pieces are going to a new home and not to a landfill.
Five
I kept things simple but delicious for the apple recipe. I found a recipe that manages to make an apple pie flavor both healthy and breakfast appropriate. The Healthy Apple Pie Breakfast Parfait from Simply Quinoa was filled with all of the yummy goodness of spiced apple with the health benefits of chia seeds. It was absolutely delicious. I customized mine by making homemade granola and adding a sprinkle of pumpkin spice seasoning on top (because fall). It was a satisfying way to shake up my typical breakfasts and it was great to have breakfast prepped ahead of time.
This month I completed all but 1 of the items on my September Bucket List. I did not make it out to an orchard to go apple picking, but luckily there is still plenty of fall to go!
