Merry Christmas Eve, Ambitious Fam! This holiday season I challenged myself to complete 12 Days of Vlogmas on my YouTube channel. Vlogmas is when YouTubers upload a series of videos and vlogs (video blogs) each day in order to share more about themselves and show their holiday spirit.
While I am very new to YouTube (my first video is only 3 weeks old!), I decided to attempt vlogmas for the first time. I thought that it would be a good challenge for a number of reasons. For one, I knew that the only way that I would get better with editing videos was to practice. I also thought the turnaround time would help me get over the need to be perfect and force me to get content out on that platform.
Challenge was definitely the right word for this task. Before each video was posted, I had spent HOURS stressing and frustrating with technical difficulties. I attribute most of it to growing pains–I’m learning a new skill on the fly and the amount of time and effort that went into each video reflects that. Though this is the case, I don’t feel discouraged about the idea of video creation. Each time I added I implemented a new feature or editing hack in a video, I felt so proud.
Though I didn’t complete all 12 days of vlogmas, I still think that it was beneficial. The challenge reminded me that sometimes it takes patience and dedication to learn a new skill–everything doesn’t always come easily! It also has helped me figure out which techniques I like which will go a long way in figuring out my video style.
It was a great effort!! Happy happy holidays, Cierra!
