DQ Gal Party Recap

February 14, 2020 · In: Lifestyle

Happy Valentine’s Day, Ambitious Fam! I have been pretty quiet on the blog this week, but that was only because I was spreading Valentine’s Day content on all of the other platforms! If you are interested in staying in the loop, please sign up for my newsletter (here) that is scheduled to go out on Sundays. This week’s edition will have all of the links to things like the podcast episode I co-hosted, a fun Valentine’s themed Minute-to-Win It Challenge video, and more!

I LOVE Valentine’s Day and I always have. I see it as more than just a commercialized holiday; it’s another chance to remind the people that you care about that you love them and that they are special to you. I especially use the opportunity to reach out to my friends and have a little Galentine fun. This month I got the opportunity to attend District Queens first Gal Party. It was a super fun night of friendship and surprises!

Here is a recap of the 2020 DQ Gal Party:

Arrival and Decor

I had no idea what to expect when I walked into the WhyHotel for the event. The District Queens extended the invitation to us individually with instructions to wear Valentine’s Day themed pajamas, bring 4 identical presents, and, to not invite/mention the event to others. I took the last rule to heart and I didn’t even tell my blogger bestie, Andi Marrs. I was the first to arrive and I was shocked to see a cute display with all of the ladies that would be in attendance, including pictures of Andi and Kelly-Lynne!

The DQ did the cutest job decorating the hotel room. There were festive touches everywhere I looked! From the looks of the hearts on the walls, the balloons scattered on the floor, candy station, and gift bag set up, I knew that we were in for a good time.

Food and Drinks

We were greeted with fun drinks (cotton candy or rock candy optional) and a spread of appetizers. In true Cierra fashion, I spent entirely too much time hovering by the chip bowl and chatted with the other ladies as they began to arrive. A little later, we were surprised to learn that the DQ also made a full dinner of bbq chicken, mac and cheese, green beans, and pizza!

Activities

After we ate, we sat in a circle for activities. First on the list was to unwrap a giant ball made of mystery prizes and plastic wrap. For added difficulty, we had to wear oven mitts as we attempted to unwrap! The objective was to quickly unwrap the plastic and get to a prize before the player in front of you rolled a double (dice). And guess what!? Ya girl won the first prize! The game was hysterical because some people would roll a double way too quickly OR you would be seconds away from a prize and your turn would be over.

In addition to the game, we also split into groups to complete the second round of activities. One group took photos while the other group decorated cupcakes, cookies, and had access to the ice cream sundae bar. Honestly, it felt like I was at the sleepover that I always dreamed of as a child. We were surrounded by sugar, music, and the giggles of gals getting to know each other.

Goodies

We all reconvened in time to do our Galentine Gift exchange. As I mentioned, we each brought 4 of our favorite items to create the ultimate swag bag. While getting to choose items to keep was fun, I was more intrigued by the gifts that people decided to bring because it was a peek into their personality. Some examples include Gratitude Jars (not me, but I loved it!), Kelly-Lynne’s signature heart sunglasses, makeup products, pop sockets, and the list goes on. When we were done exchanging our picks, we were surprised to learn that the ladies of the District Queens also crafted an additional gift bag that we took a moment to open together. They were entirely too generous; we really felt the love.

Thank you, District Queens, for hosting such a fun evening! It was so great to get to meet more amazing women! Also, a huge thank you to James and Crystal for capturing the special moments from the event!

Taking it back to 1983 with today’s vinyl. I shared in my February bucket list post that I wanted to listen to some ~vintage~ vinyls that my mom shared from her collection. She saved 5 from her youth mostly from her favorite group: New Edition.

Thinking about making this a mini series this month as I listen through them!

This week has been RELENTLESS and it’s still going. Trying out a new coffee recipe makes things a little more bearable 😅.

Is cookie butter your jam? Then this recipe is for you! If you’re like me, look for a to-go pack (I found mine at Target) if you just want to fulfill your curiosity. Cheers!
