One week into social distancing induced working from home (say hello to my coworkers in the featured image haha), and it’s already tough to keep the days straight. Alas, it is FRIDAY, so time for some Friday Feels. First, how about a little honesty: I struggled to feel “normal” in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. There have been so many emotional ups and downs over the past few weeks, that I couldn’t figure out how to show up for myself or my Ambitious Fam. I felt like I was drowning–my schedule was uprooted, the panic was spreading, and I was constantly being bombarded with news (real and fake). The illusion of control disappeared.
It wasn’t until Wednesday that I started to feel a little more like me. Life is still filled with so much uncertainty, but at least it feels as though I am adjusting to this new normal. While there are still so many feelings, one thing that has been helping has been consuming happy content.
So, here are five things that gave me all the {happy} feels this week:
NBD but Rachel Hollis may know that I exist…
Ahhhhhhhh. With all of the emotions of last week, I didn’t actually get to share this news: I was featured on StartToday.com!! When the brand, owned by Rachel Hollis, reached out to me about sharing my photo on their Instagram page, I had no idea that it would spiral into this! I truly believe in the power of intentional journaling–and specifically using their product to do it (read all about that here). I’m currently on day 255 of consecutively using my Start Today journal, which blows my mind. Pro-tip: if you are interested in grabbing your own Start Today journal, I recommend waiting until their spring Hollisday Sale on Monday, March 23rd at 1 pm EST when the journals will be on sale for just $11.99! The Tonight Show: At Home Edition
One thing that has made me smile this week has been watching the videos that Jimmy Fallon has been posting nightly. He decided that though we are practicing social distancing, the Tonight Show must go on! With the help of his wife (camera operator) and hilarious cameos of his daughters (music and art department), Fallon has been using his platform to raise a TON of money for charities. I love catching a glimpse of his real-life (seriously, his kids are the best part) and how the production of the show grows with each episode. He also includes guest stars that show off their hidden talents (Jennifer Garner playing the sax!?) and an intimate glimpse into their life as well. Check out this episode featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda!
Trey Kennedy Wormhole
Last night I fell into a Trey Kennedy wormhole. Trey Kennedy is a comedian that provides content to his “treysidillas” on multiple platforms who uses the tagline “do less, God bless.” I had seen and even shared his videos before, but I came across one of his recent videos last night and well…I kept going. I combination of lacking the desire to do anything productive and needing comic relief during the uncertainty of our current reality had me deep-diving through homeboy’s YouTube page and Instagram highlights. If you need a laugh, definitely check him out.
Frozen II
In an effort to bring people happiness in the chaos, Disney released Frozen II on it’s streaming service ahead of schedule. I had the opportunity to watch it and I have feelings. I heard so many mixed reviews that I wasn’t sure what to expect. I have to admit that the beginning was a little meh, but I LOVED it. The songs were great and I def shed a couple of tears (surprise surprise). The song that moved me the most was “The Next Right Thing.” It felt appropriate for the time and was true to my general life philosophy–sometimes all you can do is take things one step at a time.
Netflix Party!!
There is no denying that many of us will be binge-watching streaming services for the foreseeable future, but what if you could binge-watch “together?” A google chrome extension was released that allows groups of people to watch Netflix at the same time! This feature includes the ability to sync your viewing and a chatroom. Definitely plan on trying this out with my besties this weekend! Check out this article to learn more about how to set up your own Netflix party.
Bonus Feels
So thankful for my people for being the light during this time. Connecting through group facetime calls, constant snapchats, live exercise classes, phone calls, texts, social media–shout out to technology for making this time of isolation feel less lonely.
