If you’re like me, then you often have a can of chickpeas on hand. They are one of the most versatile plant proteins around. I have done everything from throwing them into a curry sauce to throwing them in the air fryer for a fun crunchy snack. Today, I am sharing one of the classic ways to enjoy chickpeas–as hummus!
The great thing about hummus is that as long as you have a good base, its very customizable. I prefer my hummus to have a little kick of spice, but if you don’t then just remove the spicy bits. No harm, no foul! Play with your preferred amounts of salt, garlic, and spiciness. I’m totally one of those peoples that ignore guidelines for those ingredients because I feel like recipes online rarely use enough. I won’t be offended if you do this same with this recipe (that the fun of cooking!).
Serve the hummus on the side of some veggies and pita chips, as a spread on a sandwich, or on a homemade Cava bowl. Trust me, you want to try out that last one! When I first discovered the deliciousness of making your own Cava bowl at home, I ate it for 4 days straight. The homemade hummus was definitely a big part of that (wink).
Below is the recipe for how I create my homemade Hummus with a Kick:
