Happy October, Ambitious Fam! October is hands down one of my favorite months of the year because ‘Tis the season to be Fall-y! Even I can admit that the month means more than pumpkin-flavored treats. Maybe it’s the changing leaves or the crisp in the air, but there is a bit of magic to the month. This year has reminded me to appreciate the simple pleasures and hold on to the familiar comforts that bring me joy. There is no doubt that October 2020 won’t look like previous years, but here is still so many aspects of the season that we can enjoy.
Here is how I am growing into a better version of myself this October:
While fall activities will def look different this year, I thought that it would still be fun to do a Vlogtober series. Vlogtober (similar to Vlogmas) is when content creators make daily videos, typically in vlog (video blog) form on YouTube. This year, I opted to take the short-form version by uploading the videos as Reels on Instagram and on Tiktok. This means that the snapshots of my day are at max 30 seconds long, which presents a unique challenge. Keep up with the vlogs by following me (@ambitiouslycierra) on those platforms!
Take a Fall Hike
Beautiful foliage and equally nice weather can only mean one thing: its hiking season. Over the last year, I have been working to increase my walking distance tolerance (if you want to learn more about my physical journey, read this post!). While I still won’t be scaling mountains or going on 8-mile hikes anytime soon, I am excited to explore a new (beginner-friendly) route soon. Me? Walking for fun? Who would’ve thought.
Visit a New Orchard
Many of the farms in my area have canceled their fall harvest festivals this year due to COVID (a policy that I totally agree with!). Luckily, it seems as though apple picking is an activity that seems like a “safe” and socially distant fall activity. Many orchards have been taking extra precautions in order to keep everyone who wants to visit safe. Part of the fun of visiting orchards over the years has been discovering new ones. Can’t wait to explore one this month!
I scheduled some time off this month for a bit of a staycation. While some days I will definitely be resting and content creating, I also want to engage in a few safe mini-adventures by hitting to road to explore new places. You can keep up with the adventures via Vlogtober or stay tuned for future posts!
Create Digital Art
My latest 2020 hobby involves playing around in Procreate to create digital art. There has been a learning curve for sure, but there is something so rewarding about learning a new skill. It has also been a peaceful way for me to slow down and step away from some social media and the tv screen (though my screen time is going up). I’ve been taking on a few projects and it’s been so fun to see how they are turning out. Hoping to actually move some out of the draft phase this month.
New Pumpkin Recipes!
If yall thought that I was going overboard with the pumpkin BEFORE October, then well…I have news for you. October is the start of my pumpkin mania which means that I’m having at least one pumpkin item a day. I love trying out new pumpkin recipes to incorporate with some of my favorites from years past!
Bonus Item: VOTE!
At the end of September, I created my voting plan (highly recommend!). I had long decided that I was going to vote in-person for the 2020 Presidential Election, but I wasn’t sure if I was going to opt to vote early. To help with the decision, I looked up the specific early voting rules in my state. Turns out, it’s super easy to vote in-person absentee and I felt like I could plan to vote at a time that would reduce my risk of crowds and long lines. With that information, I decided to vote in-person early and decided on the days that worked for me. Spoiler alert: I decided to go this afternoon and it was such a fast and easy process! Have you created your voting plan yet?
This month, I am taking the time to enjoy the simple pleasures of fall and work on my creative pursuits.
