Hey, Ambitious Fam! Happy June! While I am thrilled about the warmer weather and all of the sunshine-induced happiness, I’ve spent the last couple of days hiding from the heat and the swarming Brood X cicadas. I’m surprised that you can’t hear their screams through this post. Picture the most intense game of dodgeball, except instead of balls, you’re being blindly crashed into by loud, giant prehistoric-looking bugs. Sounds like something out of a horror movie, right? I may or may not have adjusted my bucket list to account for the fact they still have a few weeks left above ground…
Anywho, here is how I am growing this June:
It’s almost Juneteenth! Historically, Juneteenth marks the day that the last of the enslaved people were freed in Texas–months after they should have been following the Civil War. For me, the holiday is a celebration of resilience. It signifies that we (Black Americans) are still standing despite the oppressive systems that have been established to keep us on our knees. I choose to commemorate the holiday by celebrating life, Black joy, culture, and history.
Plant Wall Decor
My plant corner is one of my favorite places in my space. For a while now, I have been wanting to create some wall decor out of one of my long vining plants. I’m excited to add a few more touches to the space and watch my plant babies continue to grow.
In June I am finally committing myself to build the shelves that I bought MONTHS ago. Whether or not they will be organized by the end of the month…well that’s a different story.
New Product Launch
New products are hitting the Ambitiously You shop this month! When I was at the popup shop in Richmond, I had multiple people inquire about the shirt that I created (and was wearing) and whether I sold t-shirts in the shop. I took that feedback into consideration and tested out some 100% recycled material tees…and it’s a go! Look out for the launch of Ambitiously You tees and more in the shop on June 15th!
Mid-Year Life Audit
Now that we are about halfway through 2021, it’s a good time to reflect on the goals and intentions we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year. This month I will be checking in with myself and goals to see where I am progress-wise, which things I might want to change, and what I want to do more of. Let me know if this process is something that you would be interested in seeing!
One thing that I already know I want more of as we head into the second half of the year is movement. As I shared in this Instagram post, I am incredibly proud of my body for getting me through such a hard year. However, I miss the way that I felt when I was incorporating movement into my life more regularly. I decided to take the NattyFit Challenge with my second family as accountability partners this month! The 60-day challenge consists of elements that are meant to target different elements of your life to help you level up. I committed to working out 4x a week, eating a plant-based meal 4x a week, and daily meditating/personal development time. Shout out to Micah for creating a community challenge through NattyFit!
This month, I am taking on some home products and continuing to work on personal development.
