Hey, Ambitious Fam! We are officially officially halfway through 2021! If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend looking back at your goals for the year and deciding what changes you would like to make for the rest of the year (or the things you want to continue doing!). After completing my mid-year review, I realized just how much my ratings changed from January. Most notably in my satisfaction with my physical well-being and my mental well-being. Let’s get into my 4Ls of the month:
In June I…
liked (LOVED) getting to meet my newest nephew and catching up with one of my favorite people.
learned more about Texas (and Juneteenth) history.
lacked financial discipline…again. Outside is expensive.
longed for more family time.
Here are my other reflections for the month of June:
One
Juneteenth was an interesting experience this month. I was filled with mixed emotions about the media coverage, the exposure of performative action, and learning more about the history of the holiday. However, I still used paid time off and honored the holiday in a way that felt right to me–celebrating joy and spending money at Black-owned businesses. On Friday, I was able to enjoy my morning with a visit to a Black and Queer-owned bookstore in DC (Loyalty Bookstores) and enjoyed coffee and a sandwich from the Black-owned shop nearby (Little Food Studio). The next day, I made my way down to Fredericksburg to visit my favorite Black-Owned plant studio–Mondays (which now has a website)! Y’all know I had to leave with a new plant and the special Juneteenth shirt! All in all, it was a great weekend filled with my favorite self-care items: Plants, Books, and Coffee.
Two
Glad to update you all on Operation Organize My Space: I finally built the shelves that I have had since January. Not only have I built the shelves, but I found myself doing little things throughout the month to continue to get my space back into order. My donation pile has grown and I’ve started to reduce the duplicates–the items that I have many of, but don’t actually need multiples of. Hoping to continue the momentum in July as well!
Three
One of my goals in June was to move my body more. I missed how it felt to feel physically strong. I missed the concrete reminder that I can do hard things. I missed the routine and the accomplished feeling of checking it off of my list. I also missed the happy boost of post-workout endorphins in the morning. This month, thanks in part to the Natty Fit Challenge and my accountability group, I kept up with workouts 4-5x a week this month and I honestly feel so much better because of it. Glad to be back. See below for a comparison of my move goals!

This month I completed 5 out of 6 of the items on my June Bucket List. While I did purchase the materials to construct my plant wall, they did not arrive until the end of the month. If you’re interested in a 30-second video wrap up of the month, I shared my One Second Every Day of June on Instagram!
