Turning Around a Bad Day

November 7, 2017 in Lifestyle

We all have bad days. When I woke up this morning I wasn’t feeling well at all. Then, I walked outside to leave for work, and one of the tires on my car was completely flat. The perfect storm for the beginning of my bad day. Sometimes a bad day or mood can feel like a looming cloud of negativity that just won’t go away. No one wants to survive a whole day like that.

Here are my tips for turning around a bad day.

Be Upset

Part of being human is accepting that you are allowed to have emotions. Not every emotion can be a good one and its ok to not be ok. I believe that you should take a moment to allow yourself to be upset. Just a moment. Then it’s time start turning the day around.

Reach Out to Your Positive Support System

Positive energy is contagious. Just a short text conversation with a couple of positive people was enough for me to feel thankful for the great people that I have in my life. Want to go a step further? Visit one of those people. This afternoon I spent some time with my little brother. That kid is one of the best people to surround yourself with whenever feeling sad or sick. Surround yourself with positive people and be that positive person for someone else.

Accomplish something, even if its small

Today I just wanted to climb back into bed. And I did. I didn’t want to deal with the problems at hand. However, I’m that person who is motivated by crossing things off my to-do lists. Accomplishing tasks is energizing for me, though challenging when lacking the initial motivation. That’s why I suggest to start with accomplishing something small. Get out of bed (hey, that’s hard some days), get dressed (comfy clothes it is), and attack the day. Today my small task was getting out and voting. After I got back from voting, I was ready to deal with my car and start working on the other tasks that I had been putting off for the week.

Take Some Time for Yourself

Do something that makes you happy. Make a cup of tea, blast some music, and shake all of the bad energy out. Cook some breakfast (I had forgotten to eat during this whole ordeal and I instantly felt a little better). Watch that episode that you missed the other night or catch up on your reading. Whatever you decide, make sure to take some time to do something that you enjoy. Take that moment to recharge your positive energy.

Take a Nap

When all else fails, take a nap. I can’t express how many times napping has helped me reevaluate a situation. Was what happened to you really enough to change your whole mood? Even if it was, will it matter to you in a week? A month? A year? Sometimes stepping away (or sleeping away) from you issues of the day is all you need to turn the day around.

I turn to my comfort food ??? Popcorn or nachos or cheese fries. Probably not the healthiest way to get over a bad mood but it’s the tastiest ??‍♀️ oh and let’s not forget a nice long hot shower or bath ? Once I get out I’m either ready to face the world or ready to take a nap ?
